John Taylor

(Archdiocese of Glasgow) Born in the Enzie, 21st October 1854, the son of John Taylor and Mary Smith; left for Scotland, unordained (as no. 194), and ordained a priest by Bishop McLachlan in Dumfries, 22nd June 1879; priest in charge, Motherwell, 1888-1917; canon of the Glasgow chapter; died in Motherwell, 8th October 1917.

Report of the ordination of John Taylor in the Scottish Catholic Directory of 1880.

The Rev. John Taylor was born in the Enzie, Banffshire, on the 21st October, 1854; entered Blairs College on the 13th July, 1868; and was sent to the Scots College, Valladolid, in May, 1872. He there received the Tonsure and Minor Orders from Mgr. Fr. Blanco y Lorenzo, Archbishop of Valladolid, on the 20th December, 1878; and was ordained Sub-Deacon on the following day, and Deacon on the 8th March, 1879, by the same Prelate. He returned to Scotland in June, 1879, and on the 22nd of that month was ordained Priest by Bishop McLachlan in Dumfries. After serving for a short time at Johnstone, he was stationed at St. Patrick’s, Glasgow.
